Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic gastrointestinal disease. There are two common types of Inflammatory Bowel Disease are – Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. It cannot be cured completely but you can get relief from symptoms with Inflammatory Bowel Disease diet.
Crohn’s Disease – Crohn’s Disease is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. It is characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, blood in the stool and malnutrition because of poor absorption.
In Crohn’s disease, there is inflammation appears in patches throughout the Gastro-intestinal tract from mouth to anus.
It can not be cured completely but can be symptoms free with proper medication and inflammatory bowel disease diet.
Ulcerative Colitis – Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease and is characterized by abdominal pain and cramping, blood in stool, rectal bleeding, rectal pain, the urgency to defecate, weight loss, fever, and weakness.
It is an inflammation and sore i.e ulcer in continuous form in the inner lining of the large intestine.
Ulcerative colitis cannot be cured but with the help of Inflammatory Bowel Disease die and medications, signs and symptoms can be reduced.
The cause of Inflammatory Bowel Disease is not clear yet. But there are risk factors like – diet, immunological factors, genetic susceptibility, and stress.
So in the case of Inflammatory bowel disease try to reduce stress and plan the diet which is good for intestine and immunity.
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE DIET –
There is a diet list which is helpful to reduce the signs and symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease called inflammatory bowel disease diet.
1. Low FODMAP Diet – FODMAP Stands for – Fermentable Oligosaccharide, disaccharide, monosaccharide, and polyol. Low FODMAP diet is a short chain fatty acid. It can be easily digestible and absorbed.
Low FODMAP diet cause less gas production, bloating, abdominal pain and cramping.
Low FODMAP diet should not be used for longer period of time as it disturbs the microbiota and microbiome. It should be used under the supervision of the expert.
Use of the Low FODMAP diet for a longer period of time may cause nutritional deficiency.
List of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Diet –
There is the list of Low FODMAP–
A.Vegetables – These are the foods who can easily get the digest, absorbed and excreted. It is also helpful for fast healing.
- Alfalfa, green bean, spring onion, capsicum, carrot, cucumber, corn, pumpkin, Zucchini, brinjal, sprouted lentils, moong, tomatoes, baked potatoes, turnip, lettuce.
B.Fruits – These are the fruits who are recommended as per the Low FODMAP diet.
- Banana, Grapes, kiwi, Lemon, Orange, pineapple, strawberry, watermelon, muskmelon or papaya.
C. Grains – Oatmeal, Rice cereals, rice quinoa, and gluten-free foods.
D.Non-Veg – Lean poultry or fish and eggs.
E. Dairy Products – Soya milk, cheese, lactose-free dairy products.
2. Anti-inflammatory Diet – This diet limit the intake of some of the carbohydrates such as refined sugar, starch and gluten based food which promote the growth of inflammatory bacterias in the gut.
- Vegetables – Green and leafy vegetables.
- Fruits – Fruits which contain Vitamin C.
- Protein- Fish, Omega-3-fatty acids, eggs.
FOODS TO AVOID INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE-
There are certain foods which affect badly and make the symptoms more worsen. So try to avoid these foods.
- Spicy and oily foods.
- Fatty and fried foods.
- Alcohol, dairy products, sweet condensed milk, yogurt, custard, Ice Cream
- High Fiber Diet
- Caffeinated Beverage
- Sweets, Jams, Jellies, Chewing gums, mints, foods with high fructose syrups.
All-the-above-mentioned diet provides relief from the symptoms but does not cure inflammatory bowel disease. Medication along with inflammatory bowel disease is helpful to get fast relief.
